HARRISBURG – As the new chairman for the HOPE Caucus, Rep. Jim Gregory (R-Blair) met with Pennsylvania Secretary of Drug and Alcohol Programs Jen Smith on Tuesday in Harrisburg.

Gregory became chairman of the HOPE Caucus earlier this year. HOPE is an acronym for Heroin, Opiate Prevention and Education.

Rep. Aaron Kaufer (R-Luzerne) asked Gregory to succeed him as chairman of the caucus, which seeks to ensure every Pennsylvanian has access to prevention and treatment of substance abuse.

Gregory said his background includes his own story of recovery and his understanding of personal tragedy from losing his brother, Brian, to addiction.

Gregory thanked Smith for the meeting, which included discussion of treatment options.

“We are looking to raise awareness of the HOPE Caucus among our colleagues and assist in the policy making that is needed to fight the crisis we live with today. I’m honored and humbled to be in this position,” Gregory said.
